Data ingestion is the process of bringing data from sources into a storage or analytics system.

Written by Reflective Data experts · updated Oct 5, 2026

Ingestion can be batch or streaming and covers extraction, basic validation and loading. It is the first step of a data pipeline and the one most exposed to source changes.

Reliable ingestion means retries, monitoring and clear handling of late or duplicate data.
