Data orchestration
Data orchestration coordinates and schedules the steps of data workflows, handling dependencies, retries and alerts.

An orchestrator decides what runs when: extract first, then transform, then refresh dashboards, and what to do when a step fails. Airflow, Dagster and Prefect are well-known tools; many managed platforms hide this layer.
Without orchestration, pipelines run on ad hoc schedules and failures go unnoticed.
