Announcing Analytics Dictionary

Analytics Dictionary

Let’s admit, analytics can be hard. We are taking a step to make it easier, putting together a dictionary for analytics-related terms and definitions. Take a look and contribute to the list of terms!

The idea came from the house, while more and more people are starting to work for us, it is extremely important to be on the same page. Initially, we thought of building an internal dictionary but why not make it something public. So others would benefit from it, too!

More than just an analytics dictionary

Our goal is to keep at informative and useful as possible. We don’t have a set format or rules (really depends on a term itself) but a single term’s explanation may include:

  • Short definition (Always)
  • Detailed definition (Most cases)
  • Examples
  • Screenshots
  • Ideas for improvement
  • Further reading

When visiting the dictionary today, keep in mind that it is far from being complete (I guess a dictionary never is?). There will be better navigation and search features that we are lacking right now. For search, we are thinking of using Algolia.

You can contribute

Everyone is welcome to post terms they want to see in the analytics dictionary in the comments below.

  1. I really like the idea but I’d just like to warn you it’s going to be a lot of work. I know, I tried doing sth similar a few years ago.

  2. I really hope you actually reach the point where you have all the terms in there. It would be nice to have also the synonyms for each term. This is something we are also missing in our company and it would SUPER great if we wouldn’t have to create one on our own!

  3. Whoa, this is one good idea! Right now it seems you only have like 20 terms but good luck. I know it’s not going to be easy to include some 500 – 1000 terms in there but that’s the minimum amount to make it really useful (i think).

    Anyways, good luck!
